New Toys

Some of you who know me outside of the internet know that I recently got a new job, the new job is going to involve a few moderately long plane rides right off the bat and so I have acquired  a nook color. I know there are other readers out there and for cheaper but I wanted the Nook and here is why. First I wanted something in color so I can read graphic novels if the mood takes me, Secondly I wanted something that runs the Android OS. I am aware that the recently released Kindle fire runs Android and is in color and is cheaper than the Nook. However there are a few problems there, first is time, I will be leaving for training very soon and can't wait for it to get here, second that it is still not clear how easy the rooting process on the Fire will be, and that is what attracted me to the nook color.

The eventual plan is simple is to Root the Nook and install the Cyanogen mod. this will really allow me to turn my nook into an android tablet. I will be able to keep the functionality of the reader with the Nook app as well as installing the kindle app and any other app I want, but I will also have the full functionality of a 7 inch Android tablet, without the limited ( neutered) Nook UI getting in the way. look for my walk through and review here in the next couple weeks.

  1. Hmmm. New toys. I remember those days.

  2. I did end up rooting and then loading cyanogen mod on the nook, it was way too easy. I didn't feel as though I had to work for it at all. no nerd points earned there I'm afraid, maybe I'll get around to posting about it.
